TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The health of the Amazon rain forest is linked to the dry and dusty Sahara Desert, according to a new study from NASA. A river of dust connects these two vastly different environments. The river carries nutrients from the Sahara Desert to the Amazon. The dust falls over the Amazon and acts like a fertilizer for the diverse flora of the rain forest.
