Peccaries
Don Roberson Creagrus home

There are three species of peccaries (family Tayassuidae) in the New World. They are medium-sized pig-like animals with long legs. The most widespread is the Javelina or Collared Peccary Tayassu tajacu (above in a nice photo by Ed Harper). It ranges from Arizona and south Texas south to northern Argentina and has a wide range of habitats from desert scrub to tropical rainforest.
